As part of Big Love For Small Business we asked Charli the following questions …

Why did you start your business?

Because we wanted to back the dreamers, the do-ers, the small biz heroes. We wanted to give them the tools to actually understand their numbers (instead of hiding from them), to see why they matter, and to use them as a springboard to chase after the big dreams that made them start their business in the first place.

What motivates you to keep going in your business?

The fact that we get to do something genuinely valuable for our clients not just crunching numbers, but actually supporting them as they grow, cheering them on, and making a real difference in their businesses (and their lives) that’s what makes it all worth it.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a business owner?

Managing growth and expanding our team is exciting, but it definitely comes with its own challenges. From providing training to keeping our service standards high, it’s something that takes a lot of energy and it has a direct impact on my time. But at the end of the day, seeing the team level up and our clients still getting that sparkle service makes it worth it.

What are some of your proudest wins or achievements in your business journey?

Growing into a team of 10 has been such a milestone but what makes it even better is having a team who are genuinely engaged, bringing their energy, ideas, and passion into the business every single day.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting their own business?

Be clear on your proposition, but don’t sit around waiting for perfection — it rarely shows up, and all that time you spend waiting is time you could’ve been out there doing and learning. There’s no such thing as a mistake, only data you’ve gathered to make the next step smarter. From day one, put systems and processes in place — they’re what keep your service consistent, and trust me, it’s so much easier to build them when you’re starting out than to scramble later. Plus, it makes training new team members a whole lot smoother.

What do you love doing in your free time?

Outside of work, I’m all about creativity and a little bit of cozy chaos think collecting Jellycats, reading horror books, hunting down the best iced coffee spots, and plotting my next tattoo. I love travelling (bonus points if there’s a castle involved 🏰), bingeing a bit of Doctor Who or Merlin, and spending time with my partner Tom. Basically, if it’s fun, sparkly, or a little nerdy, I’m there for it

What do you love most about our community?

Honestly, it’s the supportive and friendly nature that makes all the difference. Lisa has completely changed how I feel about networking ; what used to feel a bit intimidating now feels like one of my absolute favourite things to do. She has this way of creating an environment where you’re never just “at an event,” you’re surrounded by friends. It’s warm, welcoming, and you walk away feeling like you’ve genuinely connected, not just ticked a box. Networking with Lisa doesn’t feel like work at all; it feels like community.

Do you have any stories that you’d wish to share about your time with The Women Who Business Community?

I first met Caroline Laudren through Women Who Worcestershire, and what started as a simple 1:1 quickly turned into discovering all these shared connections. From there, our relationship has just grown and grown – she’s now our go-to recommended IFA for the practice, and along the way she’s become such a great friend too. It’s one of those lovely examples of how networking can lead not just to brilliant business relationships, but to genuine friendships as well.

What would you say to someone considering joining our community?

My advice? Give it a proper go. Show up to as many of the networking events as you can and get involved on the Facebook group too you really do get out what you put in. What you’ll quickly discover is a genuinely welcoming, supportive community who are excited to meet you, get to know your story, and, when it feels right, recommend you on to others. It’s not just about business cards and small talk – it’s about building real connections with people who want to see you succeed.
