As part of Big Love For Small Business we asked Vicky the following …

Why did you start your business?

For flexibility and so I could be at home more while my children are growing up.

What motivates you to keep going in your business?

My family and I love a spreadsheet! It’s also very satisfying helping clients, especially those that find dealing with figures and HMRC quite stressful, I can take that burden away allowing business owners to do what they do best – run their business.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a business owner?

Increasing red tape and ensuring compliance with ever increasing rules and regulations. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is the biggest shake up for the self employed since Self Assessment began and educating clients of the changes especially those who aren’t tech savvy can be quite challenging.

What are some of your proudest wins or achievements in your business journey?

Receiving my ACCA Practicing certificate which enabled me to set up Jelly Bean Accountancy.

Reaching 10 years in business.

Being a 2024 Women Who Educate Award Finalist.

Just being thanked by a client is a win for me as it means I’ve provided a good service.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting their own business?

Get an Accountant from the start, they will save you time and money!

Surround yourself with a good network of contacts who you can ask for advice and support.

Carry out research to know your market and search the internet for grants that might be available to you.

What do you love doing in your free time?

Spending time with my family, watching my daughters football matches and supporting Aston Villa Ladies. Swimming, going for scenic walks and reading. I love being by the sea and bodyboarding. Watching musicals at the theatre and going to the cinema. I also love a cosy night in with a movie and lots of chocolate.

What do you love most about our community?

How supportive and friendly everybody is. Meeting other business owners that you can collaborate with.

I didn’t particularly enjoy networking until I came across Women Who where I have since gained friendships, clients and confidence.

I’ve met the lovely Helen Davies from Citrus Web who created my wonderful website (something I had been putting off). I met Helen at my first Women Who meeting and instantly felt at ease.

I’ve also had a mini headshot photo shoot with the fabulous Emma B Murrills and I’ve recently been helping Petra Bland with moving onto digital software. Petra is a personal trainer so I’m looking to get on board with her to improve my fitness and well-being.

What would you say to someone considering joining our community?

Do it, don’t hesitate.
