She’s constantly learning, teaching herself new techniques and staying on top of the latest trends, which means her work is always fresh and forward-thinking.
Working with Helen is a collaborative process, she takes the time to truly listen and understand your vision, then brings it to life with creativity and care. As a business owner herself, she knows how important it is to get this right and she’s ready to deliver the professional photography that will make your brand really stand out.
Why she started her business
“I needed a career that gave me creativity and a way to earn a living using my photography experience, while also being an independent parent to two school-age girls. Flexibility was essential, I wanted to be present with them and play an active role in shaping their lives.”
What keeps her motivated
“My girls. I don’t have another option. It’s about juggling my diary, my home, ageing parents and raising two children. My business has to be flexible and I need to stay in control of my time.”
The challenges she’s faced
“Inconsistent income has definitely been a challenge, as well as balancing childcare when the girls were unwell without family nearby to step in. Time management is also hugely difficult at times. I’ve had to really work on my mindset and focus on what’s essential each day to move the business forward.”
Her proudest moments
Three of my wins over the past few years include
My work being published in magazines
Winning Silver at the Golden Pineapples Awards (June 2025) for food & interior photography
Photographing an amazing cookbook with Cath Lloyd Williams (You Can Make All Types of Bread)
Her advice for new business owners
“Run it alongside a full or part-time job at first, until you’re in a place where you can expand and fully focus on your new business.”
Life outside of work
“Food photography (even when I’m not working!), walking, spending time with my girls, gardening, looking after dogs, and going on adventures to discover new places.”
Being part of The Women Who Business Community
“I love the supportiveness of it. No question is too silly. Face to face meetings are relaxed – no 60-second pitches, just genuine conversations where we get to know the person behind the business first.
It feels like a whole community – not just about business, but life too. I’ve gained true friends, collaborated on food photography pop-ups using premises owned by Jen Barnes-Hill, worked with MUAs on shoots, been part of a cookbook project with Cath Lloyd, The Doorstep Baker and had plenty of conversations about exciting future collaborations.”
What would you say to someone thinking about joining?
“Just try it. Join in online in the daily Facebook discussions, or at in-person events. There are so many different formats to choose from: face to face, online, walk and talks and collaborative round table sessions. Visit a few (remember your first 2 visits are free if you’re a business owner) and you’ll soon see that The Women Who Business Community is the supportive network you’ve been missing from your business journey”
